A BULAWAYO man has been dragged to the maintenance court by his wife who claimed that he was no longer providing for their four children.
Ms Beauty Mathe is claiming $346 from her husband Christopher Nyamurura saying he is no longer contributing towards their children’s upkeep.
“We live together with Mr Nyamurura. We are not divorced and we did not separate but l brought him here because he is no longer taking care of our children yet he is the father. I work as a merchandiser and earn about $300 which is not enough to cater for all the four children who need school fees, food and clothes,” she said.
In response, Mr Nyamurura said he could only afford to pay $100 for the four children.
“I don’t know why she brought me here because l believe we are still married. However, l can only offer $100 that is $25 per child. I work at a transport company and earn about $400, if l give her the amount she is claiming it means l will be left with nothing,” said Mr Nyamurura.
Ms Mathe said her husband earns more than $400 because he gets paid twice a month.
“This is not the proper pay slip that he produced. I know that he gets paid twice a month that is mid-month and at the end of the month. If the court may allow me to go to his work place and get a proper pay slip that can be produced in court,” she said.
The magistrate Ms Ulukile Mlea postponed the matter for judgment. — @LissahMangena
