A WOMAN has dragged her son-in-law to the Harare Civil Court demanding upward variation in maintenance for his minor child.
Stella Chitsvatsva appeared before Magistrate Sharon Mashavira requesting for her daughter’s name to be removed from the maintenance application.
She said her daughter disappeared in 2021.
She is now requesting maintenance from Tonderai Kaseke.
“We are here to change the name on the papers from Lucia Zvanyanya, who has been missing since 2021, to my name.
“I don’t know where my daughter is, for two years now, and I am taking care of her six-year-old child,” said Stella.
Magistrate Mashavira asked whether Stella wanted the upward variation of the money from $2000 that was offered by Kaseke as maintenance?
“I want, at least US$30, or equivalent to the prevailing rate”.
Kaseke opposed that, saying he has been taking care of Stella since her mother’s disappearance.
“I can afford US$10 because I am a vendor earning US$100 per month, married again and even catering for some of their basic needs.
“I am also paying fees for my child,” he said.
He was ordered to deposit US$20 into Stella’s account and continue paying the school expenses.
