A 18-YEAR-OLD woman from Bulawayo has been left traumatised after she was allegedly drugged and raped by her 18-year-old lover at a house party.
Nyasha Timanira appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza facing a charge of rape. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to Friday for continuation of trial. During the trial, the victim indicated that she believed that she was drugged by the suspect.
“When I got to the party at around 6 pm, I drank two glasses of wine which the accused offered me, the last glass tasted different. He drugged and took advantage of me without my consent,” she said.
According to the State, on 22 June 2024 at around 2 pm, the victim was sent to the central business district to collect her grandmother’s money. After collecting the money, she met up with Timanira at a local bar where they drank beer. The victim was invited to a house party at his lover’s neighbourhood and she agreed.
The State alleges that when the couple got to the party they started drinking again leading to the victim dosing off on the couch at the living room where the party was being hosted.
The victim woke up and realised that she was in bed naked with Timanira. She requested him to take her home but he refused arguing that it was late and they had to spend the night together. The next day, she went to Mzilikazi Police Station to report the matter leading to the arrest of the suspect.
