The husband is said to have spent some days without going home.
According to State papers, the woman, Sheilah Nyathi who was protesting against the husband, Mr Brian Mpofu’s failure to come home went and dumped the four-month-old baby at a grinding mill along the Gweru-Mvuma highway where he is employed as the grinding mill operator.
Nyathi was yesterday arraigned before Gweru magistrate, Mrs Florence Nago facing a charge of contravening Section 7(2) (e) of the Child Protection Act Chapter 5:6.
She denied the charges and was remanded in custody to 12 December.
For the State, Mr Boniface Balamanja told the court that on Monday, Nyathi who was accusing her husband of neglecting the family went to Mr Mpofu’s work place.
Mr Balamanja said Nyathi could not locate her husband but went on to dump their four month-old baby and went home.
The baby was discovered by Mr Elita Murwisi, the owner of the grinding mill who reported the matter to the police.
Police attended the scene and took the baby to Gweru Provincial Hospital where she is still being taken care of.
Nyathi was later arrested.
