Woman dumps baby in toilet

AN 18-YEAR-OLD woman from Dzere Village, Chief Zimunya was arraigned before Mutare Magistrates’ Courts after she allegedly dumped her new-born baby in a toilet last Sunday.

Beatrice Maguma was not asked to plead when she appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Langton Mukwengi on Tuesday.

Maguma was being charged with concealing birth of a child as defined in Section 106 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

Representing the State was Mr Fletcher Karombe.

Allegations were that on December 27 at around 7am, Maguma told her sister that she was having severe stomach pains and that she wanted to visit the toilet to relieve herself.

“The next person to use the same toilet was her nephew at around 2pm who noticed that there was a foetus in the toilet hole.

A police report was made and upon interrogations, Maguma admitted to have had given birth and thrown the foetus in the toilet hole.
