Talent Madhamu (21) was convicted of deliberately supplying false information to a public officer.
She had slept at Farai Gandiwa’s place after being chased away from home after an altercation over girlfriends with her husband.
Gandiwa is Madhamu’s ex-lover. She pleaded guilty when she appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Victoria Mashamba.
The rape charges against Gandiwa were withdrawn yesterday. On the night of November 21 this year Madhamu, who was at her house with her husband, had a misunderstanding over infidelity issues.
She was subsequently chased away from home. Madhamu decided to go to her brothers’ place. She was told to go back home by her sister-in-law. Madhamu met Gandiwa and asked for a place to sleep and spent the night with her ex-lover. She went back to her matrimonial home in the morning but was confronted by her husband. She told her husband that she had been to her brother’s place.
The husband, however, advised her that he had already communicated with the brother and she admitted sleeping at Gandiwa’s place.
She also told him that Gandiwa had raped her. A police report was made, leading to the arrest of Gandiwa.
