A WOMAN from Bulawayo’s Pumula suburb has been granted a protection order against her abusive ex-husband. Thembelihle Dube appeared at the Western Commonage Court where she accused her former husband Deny Chauke of Emganwini of conniving with his new wife to send her insulting text messages.
“His wife sends me text messages accusing me of being HIV-positive. He is the one who told her that he left me because of my status,” she said.
Dube said her ex-husband had abandoned their child.
“He has been failing to pay maintenance for the past two months. When I ask for the money he insults me in front of our child and threatens to kill me,” she said.
She said she was living in fear and asked the court to intervene. In response, Chauke denied the accusations, saying Dube was jealous of his new marriage.
“My wife only called her to instruct her not to call me in the middle of the night. I have never insulted her, she is making all this up,” he said.
Magistrate Tancy Dube shot down Chauke’s claims and ordered him to stop abusing the applicant.
“The respondent should visit children alone and avoid abusing the applicant emotionally. He should not threaten the applicant in any way or use other people to verbally abuse the applicant,” said Dube.
