DUPING desperate home seekers of their $2 000 landed a Yeovil woman in trouble.

Annahmore Rupare (35) denied the charges when she appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura.

The court heard that Rupare duped Lovejoy Chinhengo and Fidel Mambo of their $2 000 cash after promising them that she would secure a residential stand for them in Federation area of Dangamvura.

Prosecuting, Mr Donald Mudadirwa said on October 23, 2014, the duo agreed with Rupare that she would secure a stand for them and proceeded to pay $2 000 as deposit.

However, Rupare denied the allegations saying that the complainants were lying.

“These people are telling lies. They sold me “Zero” beers from Mozambique and I paid them for that, but Mambo converted the money to his own use without sharing with Chinhengo.

“That did not go down well with Chinhengo who lodged this report,” said Rupare.

She was ordered to pay $300 bail and the matter was set for trial today.

In an unrelated case, Stanley Masunda (25) of House Number 11, Lundi, Yeovil, Mutare, appeared before Mr Langton Mukwengi facing fraud charges.

He allegedly defrauded Morgan Katema of $250 after promising to secure gold claims for him.

He pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay $200 fine on or before August 25.

Mr Mukwengi also ordered him to restitute Katema.

Mr Matthew Chimutunga prosecuted.
