A 21-YEAR OLD woman from Zvishavane has been jailed for six months after admitting to sexually abusing her husband’s 12-year-old nephew. She attempted to justify her actions by saying that her husband pledged the boy to her. The woman who cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor, was sentenced to six-months in prison by Zvishavane magistrate, Peter Madiba, for having sexual intercourse with a minor.

The woman from Kofi Village under Chief Masunda in Zvishavane pleaded guilty to the charge and claimed that the abuse was a directive from her husband.

“Your Worship, before my husband left for his gold panning activities, he told me that I could inherit his 12 –year- old nephew. He said the nephew could inherit me and take over his role as my husband until he comes back, so we were only following that directive,” she said.

In passing sentence, the magistrate said the woman had lured the young boy to have sex with her and for that she should be punished. “You must be punished for your acts and you are therefore sentenced to six months imprisonment,” said Madiba.

Prosecuting, Monica Mungwena, said early this month, the woman and the 12 –year- old boy as well as his parents were in the same room during the night. The court heard that the woman stood up and whispered something to the boy who followed her to her bedroom.

“While in the bedroom hut, the woman told the complainant that she wanted to teach him how to have sexual intercourse before they later had consensual sexual intercourse,” she said.

From that day, the two continued to have sex. “On May 20, the complainant’s mother caught the two in her bedroom hut having sexual intercourse. The matter was reported to the police leading to her arrest,” said Mungwena.
