A WOMAN inserted a Jatropha stick in her privates and drank a herbal mixture to abort a three-month pregnancy, a court heard yesterday.

Sihle Tshuma, 24, of Magwegwe North suburb in Bulawayo appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube facing a charge of unlawfully terminating a pregnancy.

She was not asked to plead but admitted to committing the crime and the magistrate remanded her out of custody to today for commencement of trial.

Prosecuting, Kenneth Shava told the court that on October 21, 2015, at around 2330PM, a police officer, Brian Mugandi, received a tip off that Tshuma had an abortion.

Mugandi, said Shava, found Tshuma at her home and interviewed her.

“The accused person admitted to unlawfully terminating her pregnancy. She said she drank a concoction called isinyayi mixed with water and then inserted a Jatropha stick into her vagina,” said Shava.
