A 37-YEAR-OLD woman from Bulawayo was sentenced to 12 months in prison for assaulting her neighbour.

Sithobekile Zikhali from Mabutweni suburb punched her neighbour Vimbai Sengweni (27) once on the face and then hit her on the left leg with a stone after she had accused Sengweni of spitting at her.

Zikhali appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Ms Tancy Dube yesterday facing an assault charge.

She was convicted on her own plea of guilty.

Ms Dube sentenced her to 12 months in prison with three months suspended for two years on condition of good behaviour and nine months commuted to 315 hours of community service.

Prosecuting Mrs Sindisiwe Ncube told the court that on December 4 at around 7AM, Sengweni was doing her laundry outside her house in Mabutweni.

“Sengweni spat on Zikhali’s leg while she was passing by,” said Mrs Ncube.

“Accused then grabbed the complainant and hit her once on the nostrils with a fist before hitting her with a stone on the left knee.”

A police report was filed at the police station which led to Zikhali’s arrest.

Sengweni was referred to hospital for medical examination.
