A 34-year-old Chiredzi woman who forced her stepson, 16, into a sexual relationship while her husband was away on business resulting in the juvenile contracting a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment.
The woman said she resorted to the desperate measure after going for weeks without enjoying her conjugal rights as her husband was away on business.
She pleaded not guilty to a charge of indecent assault when she appeared before Masvingo regional magistrate Judith Zuyu last Tuesday.
Zuyu however, convicted the woman after a full trial and sentenced her to 16 years in prison of which two years were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
“I was starved of my conjugal rights and I got tempted. I thought he was above the age of majority and I did not know that I had an STI,” said the woman.
The woman told the boy that he was supposed to be happy to assume his father’s responsibilities.
For the state, Moreblessing Rusere said in November 2013 and in the absence of the juvenile’s father, the woman called the boy to her bedroom under the guise she was afraid to sleep alone.
The boy laughed it off before returning to his room.
After some time, the woman stripped naked and proceeded to the juvenile’s bedroom where she found the boy already asleep. Shen then woke up the boy and ordered him to take off his clothes before forcing him to be intimate with her. The woman would use the same modus operandi to sexually abuse the boy on several occasions.
The matter came to light when the boy fell sick.
His father took him to hospital where it was discovered that he had contracted an STI. The father questioned him and he revealed that he had sexual intercourse with his stepmother on several occasions.
The matter was then reported to the police leading to the woman’s arrest.
