A 24-YEAR-OLD Murehwa woman has been sentenced to an effective 26 months in prison after being convicted of having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old boy.

The Murehwa Regional Magistrates’ Court handed down the sentence following a full trial.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on February 14 at around 8pm.

The offender went to the victim’s home and found him in the company of his brother. She spent some time watching videos on a cellphone with them.

Later that evening, the woman reportedly followed the minor to a room where she had sex with him before she left for her home.

The matter came to light on February 27 when the boy fell sick and told his father about the incident.

The case was immediately reported to the police, leading to the woman’s arrest. In a statement, the NPAZ urged communities to remain vigilant and report suspected offences involving children.

“The law protects minors from exploitation. Communities are urged to report any suspected offences involving children so that the justice system can take its course,” read the statement.
