A 40-year-old Goromonzi woman has claimed that her family members ill-treat her due to spiritual issues.
Sara Samupinga claims to have a spiritual gift and says relatives were at loggerheads with her because they were jealous.
She said that ever since she received the gift from her ancestors, she has been ill-treated by all her family members.
Samupinga is now seeking assistance from traditional leaders, and relevant authorities, to ensure her safety and protection from her family members.
She believes that her spiritual gift can be beneficial to the community if properly utilised.
“I am now homeless after my family kicked me out because we have different views when it comes to what we believe in.
“I was recently beaten up by my niece and sustained injuries. “They are all doing that because they say it’s not good for a woman to have that kind of gift while there are males in the family,” she said.
A close family member who preferred anonymity confirmed Samupinga’s predicament.
“Most people are not happy with her gift.
“I don’t want to mention names, but most people in my family try by all means to fight her gift.
“She is exposing family members involved in witchcraft and it’s the main reason she was chased away from the family house,” said the relative.
She said Samupinga’s situation highlights the issue of discrimination and abuse which individuals, with spiritual or cultural gifts, suffer.
She said it was important for communities to be educated about these gifts.
