A Kadoma woman was arrested on Wednesday for kidnapping a child and presenting him to her lover, falsely claiming it was their child.

Sibongile Dzvairo allegedly took a two-year-old boy from the care of his mother, Bridget Banda’s housemaid and disappeared.

Bridget, a mother of three, had been searching for her son since the kidnapping in early August.

Sibongile took the child to Kwekwe, where her unidentified lover, a “gold panner”, resides.

She admitted to lying to her lover, claiming that the child was his biological son.

For over two years, the Kwekwe-based lover had been financially supporting a child he had never seen.

Bridget recounted her ordeal to H-Metro:

“I endured sleepless nights, worried by my missing son.

“After some days, my maid recognized Sibongile, which led us to contact the police.”

They tracked Sibongile to Kwekwe, where Bridget was finally reunited with her son.

“I was overjoyed to have my child back,” Bridget said.

“Sibongile claimed her lover threatened her life if she did not produce the child he believed was his.

“In desperation, she decided to steal a child under three years old.”

Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, could not be reached for comment.

However, sources confirmed that Sibongile was detained at Rimuka Police Station in Kadoma and is expected to appear in court soon.
