Woman loses protection order against husband

Maria Chiguvari

A WOMAN’S protection order application against her husband for allegedly issuing her with death threats was thrown out yesterday.

Mary Mupereki failed to convince Harare Civil Court magistrate Tamara Chibindi that she was a victim of abuse.

During the court hearing, Mary alleged that Philemon threw their three-month-old baby on the floor.

“He comes home late and insults and assaults me calling me a prostitute. He claims that our son is not his.

“I have been sleeping at our neighbour’s house because I am afraid that he will kill me and my child,” she said.

Her husband, Philemon Muchuweni, did not deny the accusations.

He, however, argued that Mary cheated and provoked him.

“Yes, it’s true that I threatened her. The problem started when I caught her with another man.

“She also insults my mother saying she is a prostitute and a witch.

“How can my wife say that I am having sexual intercourse with my mother?” he fumed.
