Woman smashes baby

Liberty Dube Weekender Correspondent —
A 20-YEAR-OLD woman was last Saturday arrested after she allegedly killed her one-month-old son by smashing him on a rock.

Police said they arrested Tracy Mapawa of Cross Farm in Nyazura soon after committing the heinous act.

Her son, Blessing Nyasha Mapawa died before he was taken to hospital after sustaining serious injuries all over his body.

“Tracy is suspected to be mentally-challenged. We are, however, investigating the matter,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa.

He said Tracy took Blessing to a nearby bush on Saturday at around 8 am. She pulled him and smashed his body on the rock several times.

When she returned home her younger sister noticed that the baby was missing.

She quizzed her over the issue, but she could not give a satisfactory answer. She later revealed that she had left him in the bush.

The baby died from bleeding on his way to Zunidza Clinic.
