A Chitungwiza woman was last week ordered to pay US$400 for a paternity test after she failed to turn up for the test, resulting in her former husband applying for maintenance discharge.
Veronica Joe took her former husband Admire Mutapivi of Chitsvatsva Village to Chitungwiza Civil Court on October 30, 2012 demanding US$100 for the upkeep of their minor child.
Mutapivi approached the court on February 22 last year seeking a downward variation to US$60, which was granted.
In March last year, he accused Joe of infidelity and denied fathering the child and applied for paternity tests the same month and the order was granted.
But Joe did not turn up on the day the tests were supposed to take place, leading Mutapivi to seek recourse in the courts to have the maintenance order discharged.
In his papers, Mutapivi said he was no longer comfortable paying maintenance since Joe was now staying with another man whom he suspected to be the father of the child.
Chitungwiza Civil Court magistrate Ms Nomsa Sabarauta then ordered Joe to pay US$400 for the test by August 22 this year failure of which she would grant Mutapivi’s application.
