A 24 year old woman of Chigura Village, Nyanga, was sentenced to 9 months in prison for pouring boiling water on another woman, in an unprovoked attack.
Tinotenda Kutsanza (24) poured boiling water on the complainant while they were in her kitchen, kicked and slapped her before she was restrained.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) – without naming the complainant- said the victim tried to flee.
Kutsanza caught up and brutally attacked her, luckily an informant intervened stopping further harm.
“Tinotenda Kutsanza (24) of Chigura Village under Chief Saunyama, Nyanga appeared before the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court facing assault charges.
“On the 2nd of August 2023, the accused person and the complainant were seated in the accused person’s kitchen when the accused person poured boiling water on the complainant. The complainant tried to run away but the accused person caught up with her and assaulted her with clenched fists and booted feet all over the body. An informant intervened and restrained the accused person from further assaulting the complainant. The complainant sustained burns on the right hand and breast (sic).
“The accused person was sentenced to 9 months imprisonment, of which 3months were suspended for 5 years. She will serve an effective 6 months in prison.”
