A 35-YEAR-OLD Nyanga man was fined for assaulting his nephew, whom he believed was possessed by goblins.
The man, who was not named, was angry that his nephew had refused to undergo a cleansing ceremony.
He ordered his nephew to buy a beast and raise money for the ceremony.
However, the nephew refused, claiming he did not have goblins.
This maddened him and he punched his nephew until he fell and kicked him in the jaw, causing a mouth injury.
In an official statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said, “On the 4th of October 2024 at around 0700 hours the accused person ordered his nephew whom “he believed possessed some goblins” to buy a beast and raise money for the cleansing ceremony to get rid of the goblins. The complainant refused to do the cleansing ceremony and averred that he owned no goblins. This angered the accused person who punched the complainant until he fell on the ground and kicked him with a booted feet on his jaw and he sustained a cut on the mouth.
“The accused person was sentenced to pay a fine of US$100 or 8 months imprisonment in default of payment.”
