Woman takes brother’s wife to court

A Harare woman, Georgina Chifamba, lost her bid for a protection order against her brother’s girlfriend, Memory Pambi, and her son, Tafadzwa Shonhiwa, who she accused of assaulting her.

However, magistrate Tamara Chibindi dismissed the application for lack of merit.

“I saw her fighting with some men and when I got to the scene, she started accusing me of influencing the men to fight her.

“She started insulting me, and her son assaulted me, choked me and she then stabbed me on my back with a broken bottle.

“She threatened to kill me and told me to go and sleep with my brother,” said Chifamba.

In defence, Memory denied the allegations.

“I oppose it because I did not insult her. I am not her brother’s girlfriend, but her brother’s wife. We have been married for nine years.

“She insults and mocks me saying I am HIV positive. She is the aggressor,” said Memory.

Tafadzwa said he only intervened to stop his mother from fighting.

“She was fighting with my stepfather, who is Memory’s brother, and my mother joined the fight, so I intervened to stop my mother from joining the fight.

“I ended up fighting with her in the process. We fought – I never assaulted her,” he said.

Magistrate Chibindi dismissed the application saying Memory had failed to convince the court.
