A Tsholotsho woman was reportedly tied to a tree, undressed and beaten using an electric cable by her husband for allegedly having an extra marital affair. Betina Tshuma, 21, was given a thorough hiding in the middle of the night in a bushy area in Jahe village.
Tshuma had to admit to cheating on Stephen Sibanda before he stopped beating her. Sibanda is on the run and has defaulted appearing before Tsholotsho magistrate Abednego Ndebele to face domestic violence charges.
The State led by Sikhumbuzo Sibanda applied for a warrant of arrest for Sibanda and magistrate Ndebele granted it.
Allegations are that on February 8 at around 12 noon, Tshuma left her home going to church leaving her husband behind.
She came back at 4PM and found her husband not at home.
Sibanda turned up at 10PM and ordered Tshuma to put on her shoes and a jacket and follow him.
She complied and followed him to the bush which is some distance away from Jahe village where the couple stays.
When they got to the bush, Sibanda got hold of his wife and tied her to a tree using his belt. He then removed her skirt and panties and started assaulting her with an electric cable.
As he assaulted her, he was accusing her of having an extra marital affair but Tshuma denied the allegations.
Tshuma realised that her husband was not going to stop beating her and she ended up admitting to cheating on him.
Sibanda untied her and immediately took her to her maternal aunt and narrated the whole story.
On the following day, Tshuma made a police report leading to the arrest of Sibanda who did not turn up in court.
