WOMAN TURNS SISTER (13) INTO HER MAID

H-Metro Reporter

A TYNWALD South woman has allegedly been abusing her 13-year-old sister after forcing her to drop out of school to work for her as a maid.

Primrose Masiyambiri allegedly subjected the minor to all forms of abuse, including torture, assault and child labour.

The girl was left in the care of Primrose and her husband by her parents, who work in Chegutu.

On Monday, Primrose’s landlord broke down the door to her room with the help of neighbours to stop her from beating up the girl for not washing her socks.

Primrose was assaulting her baby sister with an iron bar when she was restrained.

She also used sticks, a broom, an electric cable and a belt to assault the minor who was lying on the floor naked.

The girl sustained bruises on her buttocks, face, neck and back.

Primrose said she was only flogging her sister for misbehaving.

“She was misbehaving and being disrespectful, this is how I punish anyone for doing that.

“I have been staying with her for some time now and I saw it fit to punish her since I am her legal guardian,” said Primrose.

Her landlord Naga Mutandega said:

“As elders, we do not expect this, no one should treat a child like what Primrose was doing. We don’t expect this from a sibling who has been entrusted with raising a child on behalf of their parents.

“The girl was supposed to be in school, but she dropped out.

“It’s sad how the couple sleeps at night while destroying such a young life,” said Mutandega.

Efforts to reach out to Childline by neighbours have been fruitless, as officials keep on promising to attend to the situation.

When police were called, Primrose had left for an unknown location.
