A WOMAN who was seeking $240 maintenance for her twin children, wept in court when she was granted $120.
Miss Beverly Ngwenya of Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo told the court that the amount offered by her estranged husband Mkhokheli Mathe, a soldier, was not enough.
“I want $240 because I’ve twins. The money that he is offering isn’t enough for our kids.
“He also spent his bonus without sharing with us. He told me that the bonus pay was his and not for everyone.
“I’ve moved out of his house. I heard that he is now living with another woman. He should support his children.
“I’m now staying with my parents so I need to buy food because I can’t depend on them for a living,” she said.
Magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure told Ngwenya to stop crying.
Mathe, who is stationed at 1.2 Infantry Battalion, told magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure that he could not afford $240 demanded by his wife.
“I’ve many expenses. I support my grandparents. I also pay rent and buy groceries. I can only afford to give her $120. We were staying together and she decided to leave.
“She can tell the court why she decided to move out of my house as I’ve been supporting my children. I’m also paying maintenance for my other child,” he said.
Magistrate Mashavakure ordered Mathe to pay $120 for the upkeep of his two minor children.
