A Harare woman has been granted a protection order against her ex-husband whom she was accusing of being abusive.
Shamiso Nechingoro told the Harare Civil Court that her ex-husband, Brighton Bwanya, destroys her property and insults her over the phone.
“We no longer stay together, but he comes to my house and breaks things and calls me a prostitute. He wants us to reconcile, but whenever he is drunk, he insults me over the phone and threatens to kill me.
“I’m now scared of being home alone,” she said.
In his defence, Bwanya said he was not a violent man and was rather a misunderstood individual.
“I speak loudly and that’s why she thinks l will be yelling at her. Yes, I still love her, but I won’t force her to do anything she doesn’t want. I never vandalised her property, but l passed through her house and saw some boys stealing her property.
“I chased after them and when l came back, she assumed it was me.”
Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini granted Nechingoro the protection order.
