WOMEN have to unite and use their collective strength to break patriarchal barriers and drive national progress, ZANU PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs Cde Mabel Chinomona has said.

Speaking at a gathering of senior female civil servants held at ZANU PF Headquarters in Harare on Friday, Cde Chinomona said women’s empowerment goes beyond individual success.

She also highlighted women’s critical role in implementing Government programmes.

“Unity among women is the foundation for achieving equality in all spheres of life,” she said.

“Our theme, ‘Harnessing the Collective Power of Women’, signifies unity of purpose and a common desire to see the women of Zimbabwe achieve their fullest potential. The goal of this meeting is to sensitise and remind one another of our unique yet interrelated roles in enabling and empowering Zimbabwean women and girls.”

Cde Chinomona praised women for navigating difficult environments to reach leadership positions.

“I am truly proud of all of you, mostly as I am well aware of the challenging working environments that you have had to manoeuvre to get to where you are. I have been in politics and in Government for more than four decades, and I have seen it all,” she said.

She reaffirmed the Women’s League’s commitment to serving the nation, recognising women’s indispensable contributions to Government programmes that uplift communities.

“As the Women’s League, we recognise and extend to you our dedication to serving our nation and embody the critical role you play in implementing Government programmes. These programmes transform the lives of the people of Zimbabwe, especially women,” she said.

The Senate President also outlined the constitutional responsibilities of her office, emphasising the importance of education and liberation from oppressive traditions.

“According to Article 10, Section 87 of the Constitution, the responsibility of the Secretary for Women’s Affairs is to formulate and implement programmes for the general education of women. This mandate is designed to enhance the process of transformation and liberation of women from the bondage of illiteracy, ignorance and oppressive practices,” said Cde Chinomona.

The meeting brought together senior female civil servants under the ZANU PF Women’s League to reflect on their role in advancing Government programmes and to strengthen solidarity among women leaders.

It provided a platform to celebrate their achievements despite difficult working environments, while also sensitising them on the constitutional mandate of the Women’s Affairs Department to champion education, empowerment and liberation from oppressive practices.
