ZANU PF national secretary of Women’s League and Senate President, Cde Mable Chinomona has called on the wing’s members in Manicaland to unite and change the narrative by supporting each other.
Speaking while conferring certificates to 120 women who benefitted from a skills training programmes organised by Zimbabwe Indigenous Interdenominational Council of Churches (ZIICC) and Zanu PF Women’s League, Cde Chinomona said women in the province need to work together.
She said once women are united, they will uplift and support each other in their different lines of business, thereby guaranteeing a prosperous economy.
“You need to unite and empower each other as women because no one will do that for you. Once we support each other, on top of what Government is currently doing, then we know that all is well,” she said.
The trained trainers will train other women in their respective communities.
She said the skills training is in line with Government’s National Development Strategy (NDS1) which strives to empower citizens while moving towards sustainable livelihoods in communities.
“We are calling upon all women from all sectors of life to unite and make sure that they empower each other. The main agenda is to empower every woman so that she becomes self-sufficient. By so doing, we will contribute towards attaining Vision 2030,” she said.
Speaking at the same event, Women’s League national secretary of administration and Information, Broadcasting and Publicity Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa also called upon women to support each other.
“You have been empowered, so you need to empower other women out there. Make use of the skills that you gained here and show the world that a woman can also do it in every sphere of life,” she said.
Minister Mutsvangwa also said women should take advantage of the skills training and work hard so that they could also contribute to the growth of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
She went on to encourage women to be disciplined. The trainers were trained on how to make products like methylated spirit, sanitisers, liquid soap, washing soap, shoe polish, floor polish, detergents and many more.
The Manicaland chairperson for the Young Women for Economic Development (YW4ED), Ms Patricia Kundhlande was among the trained women.
“The skills we learnt here will go a long way in empowering young women, especially those affiliated to YW4ED. To us as young women, the best part of the training was the making of PPEs like methylated spirit and sanitisers, seeing as it is we are in the Covid-19 era.
‘‘We learnt that we can monetise these skills as there is a high demand for PPEs now,” she said.
She said this will guarantee the financial independence of young women.
After the training, YW4ED Manicaland will be training women aged between 16 and 45 across Manicaland on the imparted skills.
