WOMEN entrepreneurs should develop robust marketing skills to increase their share of the market in a competitive business world, an official said.
Officially opening Proweb and Virgin Unite Business Women’s Training and Mentorship Programme seminar in Bulawayo on Monday, lead organiser, Sibusisiwe Bango, said women should rise from just being small to medium enterprises to big businesspersons.
To achieve this, she said, women should equip themselves with knowledge about their businesses as well as network with other players in the business circles who are both established and upcoming.
“Female entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe will succeed in business through capacity building and equipping themselves with business skills through training and mentoring. Our vision is for women to rise above the SMEs,” she said.
Bango said since independence, women have not been articulate enough at business forums.
Given adequate skills training, she said, women can also be dominant business players like their male counterparts.
“Among the many methods of achieving this is the training of women to be confident about what they know and what they can do,” said Bango.
She said women entrepreneurs should take advantage of the globalisation of industries and market places, which has brought managers closer to each other, allowing them to share skills and new experiences.
Proweb is a women economic empowerment forum established in 2005 to harness and develop the skills of women entrepreneurs.
