Women urged to be financially independent

Women have been urged to prioritise their financial independence and play a more active role of being helpers rather than just mere partners in their relationships.

This shift in perspective challenges outdated norms and emphasises the importance of women taking control of their financial futures.

Speaking during a Mom Talk Entrepreneurship seminar held in Marondera, Mom Talk founder, Chiedza Principly Mandinika urged women to show some level of commitment to being a helper.

She said women should be financially independent.

“We want to raise a new generation of women who are “helpers” in every sense of the world in their marriages or their homes if they are single.

“We have since started hosting physical women empowerment events and last week we held such an event in Marondera, Mom Talk Entrepreneurship Seminar, with the theme ‘Be the Joseph of your generation’.

“Women were trained how to make five detergents, thick bleach, toilet cleaner, pine gel, lotion, and dishwashing liquid.

“We also had attorneys present who gave us question and answers to the attendees on the new marriage act, maintenance act,” she said.

Chiedza gave a lesson on marketing skills and one of the Mom Talk members, Menisha Cakes gave a cake decorating tutorial.

“Women got to exhibit their products as well as we had exhibition tables available and we also had dignitaries from the Ministry of SMEs, women from Bindura, Mazoe, Mutare, Harare, and Chitungwiza in attendance.

“The goal is to bring women together from all over Zimbabwe to physical events just as we do on our social media platforms.

“Every woman should leave our programmes a better version of themselves.”

Mom Talk which was founded in 2019 by Chiedza is an online organization for women, providing 37 different WhatsApp Support groups for Single Mothers’ Support Group, Marriage, Pregnancy, Prayer, Business, Mukoto and Bhindauko, Farming, Driving, Cooking, Depression and Anxiety, GBV Support groups amongst many others.
