Two hundred women drawn from the nine districts in Mashonaland East province today received their certificates following a skills training programme organised by the ZANU PF Women’s League in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Indigenous Interdenominational Council (ZIICC) of Churches.
Today’s event bears testimony to the league’s quest to economically empower women and the youths through various initiatives.
This is also in sync with the Second Republic led by Cde ED Mnangagwa’s agenda of the economic upliftment of all Zimbabweans especially Women and the youths with the ultimate objective of leaving no one and no place behind.
The colourful event was attended by about 400 people drawn from various religious denominations throughout the province.
Cde Marble Chinomona in her capacity as the National Chairperson of the ZANU PF Women’s League and Cde Monica Mutsvangwa, the Minister of Information , Publicity and Broadcasting Services and League’s Secretary for Administration also attended the event. Also present was the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Cde Aplonia Munzverengwi.
They brought along with them the CEO of the Women’s Bank Dr Marikanda. “You should emulate Deborah and stand on your own and work for yourselves to achieve economic emancipation,” Chaplain Reverend Phiri from Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services urged the women. She also implored the women to continue respecting their husbands.
“We are grateful for the leadership of Cde Chinomona who found people to train our women. This will go a long way in improving livelihoods in the province,” said Cde Applonia Munzverengwi in her welcome address.
Zimbabwe Indigenous Interdenomination Women Empowerment (ZIIWE) Chairperson Mai Wutawunashe said the programme seeks to bring NDS 1 to the rural areas through small scale manufacturing. “You have been given a business model to replace the dependency model, “ she said.
Cde Monica Mutsvangwa thanked ZIICC Patron Ambassador Wutawunashe for spearheading the recent churches’ trip to London to call for the removal of sanctions.
She applauded HE Cde Mnangagwa for championing women empowerment throughout the country.
In her speech Cde Chinomona called for unity and love, saying women leadership is about creating love and sharing ideas. She urged women to be aggressive in marketing their products.
“Work for your money and drop the dependency syndrome,” she said.
During the event each of the 9 districts received 100kgs of flours, sugar, salt and cooking oil for bread making initiative which was started by the Women’s League among its members.
