ZANU PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs, Cde Mabel Chinomona, on Monday launched the Manicaland Women Empowerment Hatchery Project in Mutasa District, which is aimed at providing women with the tools they need to succeed.
In her address, Cde Chinomona said collaboration is important if the nation is to attain Vision 2030.
“By 2030, everyone should be living in an upper-middle-income economy, but we need to work together, leaving no one and no place behind,” she said.
The project is designed to empower women in Manicaland, allowing them to participate actively in economic development through poultry farming.
The centrepiece of the launch was a heavy-duty incubator capable of hatching 3 600 chicks within 21 days.
Cde Chinomona said the incubator will benefit women across the province, with each district taking turns to have their eggs hatched.
“Everyone should have a project that removes hunger and poverty in the country,” she added. The hatchery project is expected to create a sustainable source of income for women and their families.
In addition, Cde Chinomona announced that the Women’s League had recently distributed 5 000 chickens in Manicaland, which will provide eggs that can be hatched using the newly introduced incubator.
The chicks produced will also be distributed to other women in the province, further extending the project’s benefits.
“We hope that they will have eggs that will be hatched using this machine, which will be servicing all of the province’s eight ZANU PF administrative districts,” she said.
To support the women, the Women’s League has trained them to manage the incubator effectively.
“We need our women empowered and using these machines,” said Cde Chinomona.
She also said the ruling party is committed to supporting the project, including providing solar power as a backup for load shedding at the hatchery.
This ensures the incubator operates efficiently, regardless of power supply issues. Further, she urged the party leadership to educate members on the significance of Vision 2030.
“As women, you should have the means to bring food to the table and not just wait for the husband,” she said.
The call to action aims to encourage women to be proactive in their economic endeavours.
The launch ceremony also acknowledged donations from Minister of Defence Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, which included 6 000kg of rice, 6 000kg of salt, 30 tonnes of wheat, 171 jackets, 80 trousers, bedspreads, curtains, and socks.
These contributions will further support the community and enhance the livelihoods of women in the region.
Manicaland Women’s League chairwoman, Cde Dorothy Mabika, expressed her gratitude for the hatchery machine.
“We are thrilled to receive this gift from the party,” she said.
“This hatchery machine is a game-changer for our women in Manicaland. It will enable us to increase our poultry production and improve our livelihoods.”
She encouraged all women to seize this opportunity to empower themselves and become businesswomen.
Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Advocate Misheck Mugadza, affirmed the significance of the empowerment projects.
He said the province would work hand together with women to monitor and evaluate the project’s progress.
“With initiatives like this, the Women’s League is working tirelessly to empower women and drive economic growth in the province,” he said.
The launch marks a significant step toward empowering women in Manicaland, promoting self-sufficiency, and enhancing livelihoods through innovative agricultural practices. Together, the community aims to create a brighter future for all.
