Women’s soccer lacks full support: Nomsa ‘Boyz’ Moyo

Descent Dube, Sports Reporter
FORMER Mighty Warriors’ captain Nomsa “Boyz” Moyo has bemoaned the lack of support for women’s football and challenged corporates to chip in to help promote the growth and standards of the women’s league.

Moyo made these sentiments at the Thembalethu Southern Region Women’s League sponsorship launch.

“The support given to the girl child is not enough. However, I would like to applaud those few who have took it upon themselves to support women’s football. It is important to do so because it keeps them out of mischief,” said Moyo.

The former skipper said the gesture shown by Thembalethu and Sisasenkosi in sponsoring the Southern Region league was inspiring and humbling.

United Kingdom-based Zimbabweans, Kelvin Marley and Sisasenkosi Mnkandla, are behind the Thembalethu Foundation.

“People must sponsor competitions to realise the impact they bring to societies since there is a need to empower the girl child,” Moyo said.

She said programmes must be put in place to ensure that women empowerment is made a priority through sports.

“There are many girls who are passionate about football but they are not given the platform to showcase their talent. I for one knew soccer was part of my life and I can imagine how many young girls out there share the same passion.”

Moyo, however, was optimistic that in the future other companies will come on board and assist women’s football and challenged people to watch women’s football in their numbers as this would help boost morale among players. – @DecoDecent2
