ZIMBABWE Women’s Soccer League boss Mirriam Sibanda has assured clubs that they will soon be taking to the field, 17 months after teams last played in the Super League.The previous regime under Mavis Gumbo concentrated their energies on the Mighty Warriors while ignoring the national league that saw the whole season ending without a league match being played last year.
To add salt to injury, clubs were not given their prizemoney for their sweat in 2012 despite diamond mining company Marange Resources pouring in $3 million in sponsorship.
“Let them not worry, that much I can promise. We will have our league matches as well as cup games this year,” said Sibanda.
She added;
“Clubs are in the business of playing football while we, the leaders, our job is to facilitate that they play and we will do that. That facilitation process is already in motion.”
This past Saturday, Sibanda and her board met in Harare to familiarise themselves and set guidelines on how to move forward.
This Saturday, the board will meet all the 16 Super League teams to also get their input and Sibanda believes that after the meeting, they will then announce the kick off date for this year.
The Harare businesswoman said since her election into office, she had been busy engaging the corporate world and was optimistic that something would come out.
“The honest thing is that we are not as pretty as the corporate world would want us to be, but we are doing everything we can to improve our make up so that we look pretty to the corporate world. I am sure very soon we will be able to present a beautiful brand to the world out there,” she said.
