THE Zifa Southern Region Women’s Soccer League will hold its annual general meeting on Saturday to map the way forward ahead of the start of their 2023 league season.
The chairman, Takundwa Chimundiya, will give his report on the past season, touching on the achievements and challenges that were faced. Another critical report will be from the treasurer as it will set the tone for this season, especially on affiliation and referees’ fees.

Board member competitions Sibekiwe Ndlovu confirmed the pending meeting and said they were expecting all 12 clubs, including representatives from champions Bulawayo Chiefs to be in attendance.

Ndlovu said they only read about the folding of the Bulawayo Chiefs’ ladies’ side in the media.
“We are having our annual general meeting next week Saturday as we prepare for the 2023 season. It is in this meeting where we will set our schedule for the season such as season kickoff and affiliation fees. We expect all teams to be in attendance, Amakhosikazi included,” said Ndlovu.

The league ran smoothly with teams fulfilling their matches and also coming on time for the encounters. There were however, a few glitches such as some teams accusing each other of using covet means to lure players while other teams claimed that Bulawayo Chiefs were always being officiated by one named female referee. Another disturbing incident that rocked the league was the alleged sexual abuse of players by some male coaches.

Bulawayo Chiefs are reportedly said to have sold their spot in the national women’s Super League to fellow city side, Queen Lozikeyi Academy. Sources said the well-funded Academy paid US$250 for the right to play in the Super League and took on board about 15 players from Bulawayo Chiefs.

Bulawayo Chiefs spokesperson Javas Sibanda said they gave the green light to the players to join any team of their choice although formalities like a clearance letter needed to be done.

Teams playing in the league are New Orleans, ZRP, Bulawayo Queens, Bulawayo Chiefs, Lobengula City Queens, Ubuntu, Streetset, Loxion Vipers, Highlanders Royals, Blackboots, Las Palmas and Western Rangers. – @skhumoyo2000.
