adminLONDON. — Three-time Champion Golfer Tiger Woods plans to tee it up at Carnoustie for the 147th Open after confirming his entry into golf’s original Championship.
Woods has played the Open on 19 occasions and his arrival at Carnoustie this July would mark his return after missing out on contesting the Championship at Royal Troon and Royal Birkdale in each of the last two years.
Tiger played The Open Championship at Carnoustie on the last two occasions, finishing seventh in 1999 and 12th in 2007. The confirmation of the entry from one of the greatest golfers ever to grace the sport will delight fans around the world.
Woods first became Champion Golfer of the Year in 2000 at St Andrews and did so again, at the Home of Golf, in 2005.
He successfully defended the Claret Jug at Royal Liverpool in 2006, which remains his last win at The Open. Woods also won the Silver Medal at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 1996 after finishing as the low amateur.
Woods plans to play in The Open for the 20th time when he arrives at the renowned Angus links to join the world’s best golfers in the pursuit of the coveted Claret Jug.
The Open returns to Carnoustie for the first time since 2007 and Woods’ participation adds even more depth to a world class field that promises to make The 147th Open one of the most eagerly anticipated to date.
The 147th Open will be played over the famous Angus links from July 15-22. — AFP.
