Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Dr Aplonia Munzverengwi has called on all provincial heads of departments in her province to work in harmony to ensure fast-tracked development.

Minister Munzverengwi made the call while officiating at the Mashonaland East provincial coordination meeting held in Marondera on Monday this week.

The meeting was attended by all Government heads of departments at provincial level as well as representatives from provincial local authorities.

The purpose of the meeting was for various thematic development committees to provide feedback on developmental projects in the province.

In her remarks, Minister Munzverengwi emphasised the importance of a whole-of-Government approach when it comes to development in the province.

“Thematic committees should always sit and collaborate. This is to implement the whole-of-Government approach.

“Departments must combine resources and work as a team.

“This is important when it comes to development,” she said.

She said local authorities should always support and respect State functions like the Independence Day commemorations since they are national events.

Minister Munzverengwi also urged heads of departments to instil confidence and discipline in their subordinates.

“Independence commemorations are not political.

“District levels must celebrate and be supported by councils.

“In addition, heads of departments are urged to provide education and awareness on drug and substance abuse.”

Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East  Mr Tavabarira Kutamahufa challenged all the committees to work hard and ensure development across the province.

“The province must work as a team and remain focused towards a noble achievement for the general public.

“We must also incorporate private players as we build our economy.

“We must be a formidable team not known for talking but for producing positive results as we anticipate to attain Vision 2030,” he said.
