THE construction of Mpilo Central Hospital’s three kilometre perimeter wall which is estimated to cost about $200,000 has started with the first 100 metres set to be completed in a month’s time. Speaking during the ground-breaking ceremony yesterday Bulawayo United Residents’ Association chairman Winos Dube said over $10,000 has been raised for the project.
“In pursuance of this resolution the residents of Bulawayo have raised $10,394.13 towards the realisation of the great dream. The perimeter of 2,9km is expected to cost $225,000,” said Dube.
He said $13,750.88 was needed for the completion of the first phase of the construction and by beginning building the wall the residents’ association wanted residents to know that their money was being channelled towards a good cause.
“We have resolved to respect the public that have responded to the calls by putting the money in action in what we term the first phase of 99 metres from the main gate going to Mzilikazi High School,” he said.
Jabulani Nkomo, the director of Astra, the company responsible for the construction of the wall, said it was going to take about a month to complete the first phase.
“We anticipate we will take about three to four weeks to complete the wall.
“If there are any jobs we are going to employ the people from this community because manual work does not need an academic degree but willingness to learn,” said Nkomo.
Mpilo’s chief executive officer Dr Lawrence Mantiziba hailed the partnership between the institution and the Bulawayo community.
“As Mpilo our motto is to be a centre of excellence in health care provision, a task which we cannot single-headedly achieve without such a united community like Bulawayo,” said Dr Mantiziba.
District Administrator for Mzilikazi district Matthew Nkiwane represented the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Bulawayo Cde Eunice Nomthandazo Moyo.
