Work on Redcliff water project to start

Amanda Chikari, Midlands Reporter
A LOCAL company that was awarded a $4 million water and sewer reticulation rehabilitation tender by Redcliff Municipality is set to start work soon.

Redcliff Mayor Councillor Fred Kapuya said the project would result in a complete overhaul of the municipality’s sewer and water reticulation systems.

He said all the required machinery and materials for the project were already on site and the contracted company was busy recruiting casual workers.

Clr Kapuya said the project should be completed before the end of the year.

“Drawcard Construction Company has started recruiting employees for the multimillion dollar project. They are looking at engaging the services of at least 120 employees to work on the project,” he said.

Clr Kapuya said the project involved the upgrading of Rutendo Reservoir, erecting a security fence to protect the reservoir, replacement of old pipes and other works to improve water and sewer reticulation infrastructure.

The funding for the project was provided by the Zimbabwe Multi Donor Trust Fund.

The municipality is one of the beneficiaries of the fund’s $36 million grant meant to improve Water and Sanitation in urban areas.

The African Development Bank administers the fund.
