AN instructor at Body Works Gym in Bulawayo, Prosper Mazorodze, has advised athletes to work with professional fitness trainers. In an interview, Mazorodze stressed the importance of athletes and the public joining training centres and undergoing a supervised workout plan.
“Working out with consistency is important for achieving fitness but most athletes and the public seem not to be aware the importance of creating a workout plan that will help to achieve greater consistency.
“Most athletes don’t have a commitment to a regular workout regime which decreases their fitness levels and sense of mental well-being which then contributes to poor results in which ever sporting activity they participate in,” he said.
Mazorodze said there were a number of factors that contributed to that.
“The everyday reality of living with the mental and physical health penalties of over-eating, under exercising and having too little down time greatly contributes to most of the people and athletes being unfit.
“Sticking to a regular exercise regime will keep you feeling revived both physically and mentally. When you exercise with consistency, your muscles will develop gradually and your mind will experience reduced levels of stress and greater relaxation,” he said.
Mazorodze said most athletes abuse drugs and it greatly affects their health and wellness.
“The problem that most athletes face is that some of them take drugs to enhance their abilities in various sporting activities but don’t consider the effects the drugs have on their wellness and health. One thing that the athletes should know is that when you get a professional instructor to assist you with your workout plan, it might not be as fast as the drug boosts your capabilities but it’s permanent that’s as long as you stick to plan.
“Drugs only give a temporary boost and are addictive which has contributed to some athletes having to fall out of sport or create a financial strain in their lives,” he said.
Mazorodze said the trick is not on running or doing personal exercises at home but it all comes down to following a professionally monitored workout plan.
“People aren’t aware of the advantages of joining gyms, one of them being that you get an instructor who can assist you with a workout plan that will yield positive results,” he said.
