As the clock ticked toward 4:30pm on May 1, signalling the end of a busy workday and the start of a well-deserved break for the team at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Company, an unexpected message arrived, adding an extra layer of celebration to Workers’ Day.

Local businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who was among the dignitaries at last week’s successful 65th edition of the ZITF, took to social media to express his admiration and gratitude for the outstanding work done by the ZITF team.

In his heartfelt message, Chivayo not only acknowledged the excellence displayed during the event which celebrated 65 years, but also shared a generous gesture of appreciation for the leadership at the helm of ZITF.

In his statement, Chivayo wrote, “Last week, I had the immense honour and profound joy of attending the 65th edition of the ZITF, and what an extraordinary experience it was!!! From the moment I stepped into the exhibition grounds, it was immediately evident that the organisers had curated an event of remarkable distinction, which has elevated the Trade Fair to entirely new heights.”

Under the theme “Industrialisation: Crafting an Integrated Economic Landscape,” the 2025 edition of ZITF, dubbed the “Blue Sapphire Edition,” brought together more than 800 exhibitors from over 30 countries.

Chivayo praised the smooth coordination and attention to detail that made this year’s event a true reflection of the ZITF Company’s dedication.
“This year’s ZITF was celebrated as one of the best, bringing together an extraordinary array of international and local exhibitors, as well as distinguished guests. The event marked a milestone in the growth of the trade fair and placed Bulawayo at the epicentre of Southern African commerce.
“The Matabeleland region has now, more than ever, been positioned as a hub for business opportunities and cross-border networking,” he said.

Chivayo also took a moment to recognise the invaluable presence of Presidents ED Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe and Daniel Francisco Chapo of Mozambique, who both added prestige to the event with their attendance.

However, it was Chivayo’s personal gesture to the leadership of the ZITF Company that truly caught the attention of many. In a light-hearted comment, Chivayo shared that ZITF CEO Dr Nicholas Ndebele had jokingly remarked that if he were ever to buy anyone at ZITF a car, he should not forget him. It was a remark that Chivayo took to heart, leading him to surprise Dr Ndebele and ZITF Board Chairman Busisa Moyo with an exceptional gift.
“To recognise the outstanding leadership, energy, and sheer excellence demonstrated by the ZITF Company, I am pleased to hand over two brand new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 series VXR vehicles, each valued at US$200 000. One is for Mr Busisa Moyo, the chairman, and the other for Dr Nicholas Ndebele, the CEO,” Chivayo announced.

He concluded his message with heartfelt congratulations to the ZITF team, urging them to continue their journey of success.
“I am most honoured to make this small gesture of appreciation for their exceptional leadership at the ZITF Company. May even greater successes lie ahead for ZITF and for our beloved Zimbabwe.”

The vehicles, fully paid for and ready for collection at Faramatsi Motors in Harare, are a fitting tribute to the dedication of ZITF’s leadership. This generous act has added a special touch to an already extraordinary celebration of Zimbabwe’s progress and potential.
