WORKERS at Footwear and Rubber Company in Bulawayo have no joy after their employer paid them $15 each as salary for December.
Disgruntled workers stormed Chronicle newsroom yesterday and expressed disappointment in the way their employer treated them. They complained that their Christmas had been stolen.
“This is Christmas time and we have families. Our children are looking up to us to buy them groceries and clothes but the company gives us a ridiculous $15,” said one of the workers.
Another said they were in trouble with their landlords as they could not pay rent.
“Our landlords want to evict us because we have been struggling to pay rent. We are also heading towards January and we need uniforms and pay school fees for our children,” he said.
Footwear and Rubber Company manager Dominic Majore said he could not comment on the matter referring all questions to the company’s administrator who he said he was on holiday.
“I have been trying to get in touch with her but I cannot. Probably she is on holiday,” he said. “This is Christmas time and we have families. Our children are looking up to us to buy them groceries and clothes but the company gives us a ridiculous $15.”
