Blessings Chidakwa in Kadoma
Kadoma City Council employees are accusing the local authority of misplaced priorities that have compromised service delivery in the town.
In an interview recently, chairperson of the Kadoma chapter of the Zimbabwe Urban and Rural Workers Union Mr Lenin Samhembere said the council’s priorities were unrealistic.
“Management have bought vehicles which have nothing to do with service delivery and since receiving $1,2 million from Zinara, no visible development has been witnessed,” said Mr Samhembere.
He accused council of neglecting workers.
“No allowances have been paid for more than a year and we have received 60 percent of our salaries for March, with one-month salaries being staggered and paid in three months,” he said.
However, Kadoma town clerk Mr Malvern Dondo said council had been working on retiring its debt obligations.
The council, which had been plagued by a six-month salary backlog, has since cleared half of the arrears.
“On current payment as of today (Thursday last week), we have fully paid February salaries and 60 percent for March 2018,” he said.
