MARATHON runner Tendai Zimuto is looking forward to his maiden appearance at the World Athletics Championships in September.

Zimuto is one of the two marathon runners that are set to represent the country in Tokyo, Japan from September 13 to 21.

Isaac Mpofu has also qualified.

But for Zimuto, it will be his first time at the global meet, that features the world’s best.

“What I can say is qualifying for the World Championships is something huge and exciting. As an athlete it’s something you always hope for; it’s every athlete’s dream.

“It’s something positive even for your profile. You get recognised for some of the major events.”

The qualification window for marathon closed early this month.

However, for other events, including track and field it’s still ongoing and National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe is optimistic a few more athletes stand a chance of qualifying.

So far five athletes have secured their spots at the championships.
