Coco Gauff has said the world’s richest tennis player Jessica Pegula could “tell everyone to f*** off”.
Pegula, who has a staggering £5.4 billion net worth, became Gauff’s doubles partner last year and the pair have since gone on to have considerable success on the court.
Beaten finalists at the French Open in 2022, they reached the last four of this year’s Australian Open before winning the Qatar TotalEnergies Open last month, their fourth title win together.
Their success has caused 18-year-old Gauff to heap praise on her fellow American and doubles partner in a recent interview whilst on tour.
Speaking via Tennis Up To Date, she explained: “As a person, Jess is probably one of the best out there, I think, especially where she comes from. Not that you should, but she could just tell everyone, like, F off.
“She’s like one of the nicest people ever. Someone, she’s older than me. You know, she deals with all my antics when I try and say certain things. In a way, like, she does, in a way, she’s like my on tour older sister in a way.”
On their doubles partnership, she added: “I’m, like, grateful that I can be our doubles partner, and we have created that relationship. Yeah, and I’m glad that she said some great things about me, because I definitely feel the same way about her.”
The pair’s form as partners has seen them climb towards the top of the women’s doubles world rankings, with Gauff currently number two and Pegula positioned in fifth.
As for their singles rankings, Pegula sits third whilst Gauff is three places below her in sixth. The pair will be hoping to boost their rankings as they continue to perform at the Indian Wells Masters.
The number two seeds are into the round of 16 in California and are set to take on Miyu Kato and Aldila Sutjiadi on Monday night for a place in the quarter-finals.
Pegula’s status as the world’s richest tennis player is thanks to her being an heiress as the daughter of billionaire Terry Pegula, who’s fortune she is set to inherit.
As well as owning the Buffalo Bills NFL franchise, Terry also owns a number of other Buffalo-based sports teams, including the NHL’s Padres. – Daily Star.
