WORST kept secret?

Leaked pictures of Highlanders players in group photo at a local gym wearing telecommunications company a NetOne-branded T-shirts has fuelled speculation that the Bulawayo giants are on the verge of a major sponsorship deal.

Currently Bosso have no sponsor after BancABC pulled out last year.

Highlanders, under the guidance of new coach Madinda Ndlovu, regrouped in Bulawayo after a week of training at a secret location and are working out at a local gym.

B-Metro Sport canvassed comments from its sources on the possible NetOne/ Highlanders deal and this is what one of them said:

a?A non-disclosure agreement, which clearly and categorically states that disclosing details of the sponsorship package will result in the deal collapsing, was signed between Highlanders and the potential sponsor.

a?In other words, 99 percent chances are the deal will collapse if anyone talks to the media,a? said our source.

Highlanders are set to benefit $350 000 from the deal with part of the money to be used to take care of monthly salaries for players and their coaching staff.

January salaries are to be included in the deal.

With only a few days left before the month comes to a close, the Highlanders executive will soon find itself clutching at straws in the face of a huge salary bill.

Madinda has a backroom staff consisting of an assistant coach, doctor, physiotherapist, team manager and a squad of 27 players.

a?The launch is taking too long and the delay is only feeding into the rumour mill but we will rather have people speculating than to comment on the deal otherwise they (NetOne) will pull out.a?

Dynamos and Caps United will also get $350 000 apiece if the deal materialises.

Highlanders chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube refused to comment on the issue. .
