The annual New Year’s Eve Woza Bohlingers Tight Party hosted at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo has been cancelled due to funding constraints.
Hundreds of revellers for the past four years have been converging at the cricket grounds to usher in a new year.
Delta Beverages marketing manager Patricia Murambinda confirmed the sad news.
“This year we aren’t having our Woza 2016. This is due to budgetary constraints,” said Murambinda.
An official at Delta Beverages who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the company found it cheaper to partner with promoters than spend money on foreign artistes.
“We’ve realised that we don’t have the expertise to organise such big shows. We’ve decided to partner with those who can organise these shows that are dotted around the country and we provide the brands that they want from our range,” said an official.
The cancellation of the Tight Party is a major blow to revellers who had grown accustomed to making their way to the venue with the prospect of getting two free beers upon paying an entrance fee.
The development is however an advantage for the city’s night spots that are expected to record increased beer sales.
Last year DJ Cndo was the main attraction which saw her spend an hour on the decks.
The Woza Bolhingers Tight party started in 2009 with South African stable Kalawa Jazmee artistes such as Professor, Alaska, the late Brown Dash, Stone, Tsidi, Mono T and South African-based Zimbabwean singer Apple Seed, performing.
Thereafter DJs Ganyani and Cndo performed at subsequent shows.
The Bohlingers parties are held annually as a way to thank Bohlingers drinkers for their continuous support.
