BULKY local wrestler Jonathan “Mr Matt” Muvingi is on cloud nine after punching his ticket for the World Pro-Series to be staged in Uzbekistan in October.

The fighter, who is also a weight-lifter of note, achieved the feat after coming second in the 20th African Kurash Championships held in Eswatini last week.

He was in top form in the 100kg and under category in a tournament that had 92 athletes across eight weight categories.

Eight countries that include Benin, South Africa, Egypt, Congo Brazzaville, Mozambique, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, and the hosts.

Muvingi said he was delighted with the way the contest panned out.

“I am very happy as a wrestler because winning is all that every fighter wants. It was very tough fighting against seasoned wrestlers.

“I prepared for the tournament well because I knew that I was going to face very good fighters at the competition,

“What made it even more challenging was the fact that the tournament was also being used as a World Pro-Series qualifier.

“So in the end, I managed to pick up the ticket and I am more than happy to have done that for my country.

“I am very grateful to everyone who supported me in that journey. I set out to perform well and I did just that. I am happy about that.”

The Black Rhinos wrestler has already started preparation for the world championships.

“Look, I believe I could have done even better than what I did in Eswatini had I prepared very well. Preparation is key to everything and I have already started practising for the World Pro-Series coming up in October.

“I am always in the gym and I believe I can do very well in Uzbekistan,” added Muvingi.

“I am looking for partners to help me achieve my world dream. I know I am going to do well and be a good rep for my country.

“October is not very far and my preparations are going on very well. I am going out there to give it my all and see what comes out of it.”
