THE Write to God project initiated by Brahma Kumaris, a spiritual organisation, will tomorrow host a dialogue at Suburbs in Bulawayo to help members of the public understand the power of values. The dialogue, which is open to the public, is aimed at empowering believers of all denominations with a deeper understanding of meditation and the importance of having a stress free mind.
Write to God project coordinator Janita Hargoven said: “We want to take people a step further and teach them more about meditation, its uses and benefits.
“Since last year, we have received about 3,230 letters from people all over Zimbabwe. Some people who have written these letters say they have felt relief and peace, what they had been asking for was granted unto them and they have had the chance to write their prayers out.
“The dialogue, which is open to everyone, is aimed at helping people understand meditation and what the values we have.”
Hargoven said once the letters are received they are prayed over and meditated upon.
Sister Pratibha Patel, a facilitator for the dialogue said: “The world we live in now has lost its values, ethics and morals despite all the technological advancements. We are all stressed, critical, negative and unhappy.
“What we need is to cultivate a healthy mind which is stress free and positive. We want to affect individuals, who will in turn affect a city, a country and then the world,” she said.
Sister Pratibha said meditation is not a religion but a mental exercise.
“Whatever you think about happens. If you think negatively then negative things happen, if you think positively then positive things happen,” she said.
The Write to God initiative was established in Kenya following civil unrest before and during the country’s presidential elections. Its founders say Kenyans lived in constant fear and “writing to God” was meant to help relieve their stress.
The initiative has become regional and has not only grown in Zimbabwe but in Liberia, South Africa and Botswana as well.
