A NEWLY licensed radio station to be based in Zvishavane, YA FM will this month conduct a presenter and news anchor search.

The station which hopes to start broadcasting in August will hold its first auditions on June 24 in Harare followed by Bulawayo on June 25. The last leg of auditions will be in Zvishavane on June 26.

YA FM chief executive officer Munyaradzi Hwengwere said their selection criteria would be very simple as they’re mainly looking for talented people.

“YA FM is looking for people who understand the mining community as there’s a lot of activity here. Experience does not matter as we want people who can engage well with the community,” said Hwengwere.

He said they were still looking for venues for the auditions which will be done in three stages.

“We’ll have public auditions, semi-finals and a workshop where the panel of judges will work closely with the finalists,” he said.

Those who will make it will be revealed towards the end of next month.

Hwengwere said they had since identified space for their studio and are renovating it adding that their team had travelled to Kenya on a fact finding mission.

“The YA FM team recently visited a couple of radio stations in Kenya to get to understand how they operate their radio stations there. We’re learning from them as we want our station to be competitive,” he said.
