A second-half brace by Yadah midfielder Godknows Mangani condemned relegation-threatened WhaWha to their 15th defeat in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.
It was perfect revenge for Yadah who lost 1-0 at Ascot in the first round.
But yesterday, the hosts put up a clinical show with striker Kudakwashe Mangami scoring the opener in the first half. Yadah who dominated the show in the second half and killed off the match as a contest through Mangani who scored two goals.
The victory puts Yadah in a comfortable position as other league matches are played this afternoon and tomorrow.
However, the defeat spells doom for the Prisons and Correctional side that is known for their giant-killing act. The Gweru side have managed five wins, four draws and 15 defeats this season.
They lost to CAPS United at home in their previous match and before that, they had managed a goalless draw with Herentals.
However, the day belonged to Yadah who, in their previous match before the break, managed a 1-1 draw against Manica Diamonds.
Before that, they had beaten Ngezi Platinum 1-0.
Yadah coach Genesis Mangombe said he was happy to have won yesterday’s match after having lost away in the first round.
“It feels good to win. We dominated possession in the second half after they matched us pound for pound in the opening period. It was good revenge for us, we lost 1-0 at Ascot,” said Mangombe.
The Yadah coach said he was particularly charmed by his 17-year-old attacking midfielder Blessed Ndereki who was playing in his second game after making a cameo appearance against Chicken Inn.
“I made one change and put Blessed as the defensive linkman and he did well, winning duels. He is a good player full of potential.
“We took him from High School and has just started playing for us, he came in the second half against Chicken Inn but today he had game time and did well,” said Mangombe.
